Accounting software (lower-priced)

Our small NFP is growing to where we need to start planning on using some lower-priced accounting software next year.

Any recommendations? All the better, but not necessary, if software allows for practical/easy long-distance oversight for internal auditing.

    Thanks in advance,

I’m guessing @Asta Petkeviciute might have some thoughts on this…

@Christopher Preciado - The 2 sessions led by Jericha Senyak last year both touch on this in different wys:
    * #Session 157: Fiscal Sponsor Accounting with Jericha Senyak
    * #Session 189: Financial Reporting for Fiscal Sponsors

I mean, when you say small, the first thing I think of is Quickbooks, and the Techsoup discount

I know Asta is a fan of more robust systems, like Sage Intacct. But if you are small, that might be overkill/out of budget

@Nathan Hewitt Never heard of Techsoup. So it really only comes out to ~$80-160 per year via Techsoup?

@Christopher Preciado What systems do you currently use? What are additional needs? What type of FS you are offering. These questions help inform your shortlist. FYI: We conducted a session on financial systems selection a month ago. In short, besides the price, I would suggest clarifying your needs and wishes, as well as the list of other systems you currently use that you want to maintain and integrate with. All of these aspects will help inform your shortlist of options. The field scan provides a list of the most common financial systems, and there is a significant growth in tech options. But keep in mind - one system may work particularly well for one fiscal sponsor, but it might not be a good fit for another. It is all part of systems design, staffing capacity, and your organizational needs. I have also observed vast differences in how various fiscal sponsors utilize the same systems and what they can achieve with their design (and pricing) choices. Happy to share more!

@Asta Petkeviciute @Asta Petkeviciute Thanks for your response. I had no idea quickbooks could come out to less than $200/yr as Nathan above shared. I tested gnucash.org and quickbooks, and quickbooks via techsoup.com definitely will be a big affordable improvement for us that we’ll be content with for now. Thank you.
