Hi everyone!
On the heels of Jericha’s incredibly comprehensive presentation today, I thought it would be great to start threading discussion on our various wins and struggles with accounting technology for fiscal sponsorship.
I’ll start: we use Quickbooks Online simply because it is what was available back in 2015 for a business of our size. In my day-job, I administer a myriad of systems, including Netsuite, Salesforce and QBO. More recently, I’ve realized the problem of fiscal sponsorship accounting boils down to the same problem that most SaaS companies fail to address: data integrity, cleanliness, and (flexible) dimensionality. In my free time (ha ha), I have been creating a very light transaction databasing system built on SQLite and Python that utilizes CSV files as a proto-user-interface. That way, I’ll be able to slice/dice/report that data using any available BI tools (or, native SQL and no BI tools!). My intention is to maintain our books in both systems to see how it feels, and drop QBO if I find my own system more functional at our size.
I have no grand illusion of developing fully-packaged software, but I’d be happy to share my learnings and collaborate on custom solutions!
