Many of us are facing the post-election landscape with concern and trepidation. I would love to have a place where sector-related news could be shared so that we can at least be aware of it and forwarned. For example, this article on November 12 in the Nonprofit Quarterly was very helpful and informative. https://nonprofitquarterly.org/nonprofits-face-backlash-for-controversial-work-report-warns/. Then, on November 14, the NQ ran a piece on the House Bill that would give the US Treasury Secretary sweeping authority to close nonprofits that are deemed to be ‘terrorists’. https://nonprofitquarterly.org/nonprofits-face-backlash-for-controversial-work-report-warns/ Fortunately, the bill did not pass this time, but it is probably not dead for good.

Is this a good place to share potentially important information as things continue to unfold in Washington? If not here, where?

I agree, Pam. Some of our projects are hearing these threats and looking to us for guidance. Some of the threats were random comments a candidate made during campaigning and some are turning into bills as you mention. We spent the last year developing a program for EPA and now that is under threat of being clawed back. The Community Change grants from EPA are supposedly at risk, along with the Thriving Communities grants from EPA as as next in line to be eliminated.

Hi Everyone - If you haven’t heard already, there IS going to be a vote on this bill on Thursday, 11/21 (in two days!).

If you’re concerned about this bill, NOW is the time to take some action.

Here are some resources and suggested actions via a group of nonprofit consultants that I’m affiliated with: https://directory.consultants4good.com/expert-opinion/what-is-hr-9495

So this vote happened today and was passed. I am reaching out to others to gather any and all ideas as to how we can fortify ourselves if a worst case scenario happens (this passes in the new Senate and is misused by the new administration). Please contact me if you’re interested in being a thought partner on this matter. Jennifer@saveourplanet.org
