Fiscal Sponsor Organizations

Hello, we’re thinking of fiscally sponsoring a community garden in a nearby state. A need they have is for our not-for-profit and, or 501c3 status to help them to be able to

offer community members the opportunity to complete community service hours at the garden. We plan to host community service opportunities twice weekly—on Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM—throughout the garden season (May through October). We believe that this collaboration would not only support individuals needing to fulfill service requirements, but also strengthen community ties and contribute to the shared stewardship of this vital public resource.

I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations or cautions about using our legal status to help them offer community service.

And does anyone have any internal and, or public documents/policies that you can share to us (colectivomo@gmail.com) to help us brainstorm the development of our own policies and procedures for this?

    Thank you in advance.

Hi @Christopher Preciado - When they say “community service” in this context, are they referring to things like court-ordered community service or more like students in high school or college that may have a community service requirement?

I think if the community garden was a model A project, it IS possible to do this.
