  • 1.  Current wait time for 501c3 determination?

    Hey all, would you be willing to share what the wait time has been for projects applying for 501c3 status?

    Googling has offered a wide range of results and many of the webpages sourced are from 2020-2021 when COVID was affecting everything.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Hi - In my recent experience, the wait has been all over the place.

    I use this as a starting point when clients ask this question: https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/wheres-my-application-for-tax-exempt-status

    You can usually tack on another few months from when they start reviewing the application for them to review, ask questions, issue the letter, etc.

    Hi Justin. Im not sure there's an actual or any kind of official "average" time. I've heard between 3 months and 18 months... I'd also be interested if anyone has further insight into this!

    Just heard from a project that received it's c3. It took almost exactly 4 months.

    Last I heard from a lawyer was average of 8 months
