Fiscal Sponsor Organizations

    Hi all —

If you would be willing to share — who do you procure your liability and D&O insurance from? We are shopping, and we’re getting declined by a lot of companies who apparently ‘don’t insure fiscal sponsor organizations’. Which I kinda find hard to believe.

    Thank you so much!

We recently moved to a new insurer and were recommended by many in this network to go to Nonprofit Insurance Alliance through Cal Nonprofits (https://calnonprofits.org/resources/insurance-risk). They totally understand fiscal sponsorships and have been a great partner to us. I highly recommend them.

@Shava Lawson So they are licensed to provide insurance in Washington State?

Southern Vision Alliance used NIA as well.

Hey Beth, we use Heffernan Insurance Brokers, and are insured by Berkly Regional Insurance Company. They have been shockingly good about insuring us/projects (including a project where children are taught how to swim in open water!).

We have NIA for our liability as well. However, our broker is Marsh & McLellan, and they have been horrible. I’m curious what broker people use who have them? Ideally we’d keep NIA for our liability but just switch to a different broker.

Our broker is also MMA (although we like our contact!), and I believe our D & O is through Philadelphia Insurance Companies.

Ecologistics also gets its insurance from California Nonprofit Insurance. They have been great and also help our sponsored organizations with their insurance. https://www.calnonprofitsinsurance.org/

We’re having this problem as well. Multiple companies that don’t understand or don’t offer “that kind of insurance”.

An interesting tidbit from Kian at Mazlo is that he’s interested in using collective power for insurance negotiations. If Mazlo builds up a big enough user base of fiscal sponsors, perhaps it will help us in this area someday.
