Fiscal Sponsor Organizations

  • 1.  Operating Handbook for Projects

    Hi all,

Does anyone have an operating handbook for projects they would be willing to share? It would be something like an Employee Handbook for Employees but instead for Projects; what is expected of them, etc. Basically what language in the fiscal sponsor agreement means in practice.

A couple of topics we are thinking about including would be things like:

How fundraising and gift acceptance process works.

Roles and responsibilities of Sponsor and Project.

Roles and responsibilities of Steering Committees.

    Thank you,

    the ESI Team

Following this topic! We’ve been working on the same thing at my organization. It’s hard to get fully off-the-ground, but I know it’s going to be a helpful resource to the groups we work with.

Hi @Sarah Hiller and @Lev Greenstein - I definitely understand the interest in this topic. These are sometimes referred to FS Program Manuals, Project Operating Manuals or something similar, and they can be 5 or 10 pages all the way to 100 pages+, depending on the sponsor and how detailed they get. That leads me to this: these documents are very specific to individual organizations and so I’m not sure if any members here will upload their whole document — and if they did, I’m not sure how useful it would ultimately be to ESI or Native Movement.

That being said, Sarah, it sounds like part of what you’re asking is what types of content do sponsors include in these manuals - is that correct?

If so, perhaps some other members could copy and paste the Table of Contents (or something similar) from their manuals so you could get a sense of the types of content they include in their manual — would that be helpful?

@Andrew Schulman - great idea and yes, some ideas of what to include would be very helpful.

@Anne Haddox (they/them) - I truly love how much AMP sets the example for sharing in the fiscal sponsorship world. Thank you for helping us all become better stewards of charitable work!

@Anne Haddox (they/them) Thank you so much for sharing this. It’s going to give us a very good start on our own handbook.
